Carpet Cleaning When it comes to Carpet Cleaning, there aren't many of us who are truly "pro-active". In other words, we don't plan our carpet cleaning. We tend to find ourselves relaxing in the evening and, in the artificial light of our home lighting, suddenly the carpet screams at us. That glass of red wine that dad spilled, the little mishap our family pet or child had, and four years without being professionally cleaned, finally the carpet has had ENOUGH! What do we do? We "react"! We determine that tomorrow morning we are going to call a Carpet Cleaner. Some react even quicker and phone right away. Or maybe, it’s the family coming to stay, we're having a party, we've just re-decorated. Does this sound familiar? It should, because in my 23 years of experience, 90% of my clients call because of a reaction like the one’s above. Unfortunately, the reaction has come about three years too late! The accompanying chart compiled by Du Pont, a large worldwide carpet manufacturer illustrates the difference between pro-active planned maintenance, and reactive unplanned maintenance of your carpets. The effect is quite amazing. Carpets really should be cleaned a minimum of once a year. Does this shock you? It did me when I first heard it. I thought that we were just being encouraged to rip people off. But, when I understood the construction of a carpet, and how, many fibres have been developed to hide the dirt, I then understood where my instructors were coming from. When a carpet finally screams at you "GET ME CLEANED", often it is too late. You see, the dirt is abrasive, not only that, but many of the soils in a carpet are being left long enough to alter the dye stability. So you have dirt wearing away at the pile and changing the colour or appearance. Just move your sofa to see if that's true. One instructor said; "each carpet fibre is like a tiny dustbin, only when it is full to overflowing does a carpet then look dirty. While it’s getting full, nobody notices." This is why regular cleaning is so important. We need to empty the bins before they get full. Therefore, carpet cleaning should be carried out BEFORE a carpet ever looks dirty. This way the carpet always looks clean and like new for far, far longer. By way of an illustration; if you put a clean white towel on the floor by your front door, how long would it be there before you picked it up and put it in the washing machine? I wouldn't mind betting that it doesn't stay there the day. And yet that is what we ask of our carpets year in and year out. But Carpet Cleaning isn’t cheap! True, but nothing worthwhile is. No, no, no, no, and no! Every carpet cleaning company will tell you that their cleaning system is the best in the world. There are lots of Trade names for different cleaning processes, and we are not here to down cry the systems that we don't use. Every systems works in some measure and every system has its benefits/limitations.
